In a recent conversation with a dear friend and colleague, we were discussing the drive that we both have to create goals for ourselves. The side effect of such a mental model—making goals and all— is that sometimes, you just bite off more than you can chew.

Summer is over, and I am reflecting on my goals for the upcoming months left in the year. I really need to get back on my “healthy life” track, so I’m making a few goals there. I have to send out some prospective job “feelers,” so I can start building momentum for a new career. I have to organize a yard sale, so I can ditch some of this “stuff” that is surrounding me without making a meaningful contribution.

Ah, goals. Those are the things help me follow my dreams, but I wish that they were easier to accomplish in an afternoon of hard work!
